Michael John began drumming on boxes and buckets when he was 4 years old. Two years later his grandfather gave him his first
snare drum and he studied his fundamental rudiments. He continued on in his studies of percussion for six years. When he was 11, Michael received a complete drum kit from his father, formed his first band when he was 12 and proceeded to play in nightclubs, restaurants and resorts as drummer and lead singer. From age 13 on, Michael studied the styles and solo techniques of many accomplished drummers like Buddy Rich, and played the music of bands such as, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and Rush. While he was playing in bands and touring Ontario, Michael was asked by bands with recording contracts to open for them on their own Canadian and North American tours. However, due to his young age, parental consent was required, and not given until Michael had completed high school. In 1998 & 99, Michael won several drumming competitions in the amateur division for his solo technique and style.
Currently, after moving from the US back to Canada, Michael is in the process of forming a new group.Michael would also consider playing and touring with established groups who are looking for a charismatic, dynamic and precise rock drummer with many years experience. Another of his interests would be to play for tribute bands, for groups such as The Who, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Black Sabbath, and also to play in the band/orchestra for Tribute Impersonator/Impressionist Concert Productions. Michael is open to suggestion as far as using his drumming expertise is concerned. He would also consider helping another artist with studio projects. |
